Scott and I are starting to feel like our "carefree" lives are slowly winding to a close. Once this baby comes we will have to be in full parent mode! We are so excited for the change but are taking advantage of the time we have left just the two of us. We were able to take some time away and go to California before school starts and have some fun in the beautiful california sun. We chose a great weekend to leave because it was about 80 degrees the whole 5 days that we were there which was a nice break from the Utah cold (although it has not been very cold in Utah either). We spent some time and the beach, disneyland, downtown disney, and at a lot of delicious restaurants. It was a nice babymoon getaway before we have to grow up and be parents.

Saturday was a very special day and a very fun beginning to my birthday weekend! Since I work in the radiology department at the Utah Valley Hospital have been able to get a few extra ultrasounds, which has been so much fun and is a HUGE perk to the job! We were able to easily see the gender in this particular ultrasound and I am shocked that it's a boy!The day we found out I was expecting I felt right away that it was a girl, so I have been planning on that feeling and as we went in, I was sure. And there is was over and over again from every angle, a penis. We're having a little boy! Better get my blue on! Even though I am so shocked, I am so so excited to have a little boy to call my own. I am already so in love with him and can't wait to hold him in my arms!

This profile just kills me. He has such defined features already, that little turned up nose is just adorable.

No doubt about it, it's a boy!

Scott and I and our best friends got a condo for a week in Snowbird for Oktoberfest {german celebration} and it was so nice to get away from our crazy lives. We enjoyed a many hours at the spa, rode the tram, swam in the beautiful mountain sun, and enjoyed the beautiful site from our condo {above pic taken from the balcony of our condo!}. We were only able to go up for the weekend and then one night during the week, but I'm sad it's over! Thanks Scotty for a wonderful weekend, we badly needed a getaway! Oh and Fall is amazing, I am obsessed!!

A few of my friends and I went up American Fork Canyon this last week and went bouldering {Bouldering is a style of rock climbing undertaken without a rope and normally limited to very short climbs over a crash pad (called a bouldering mat) so that a fall will not result in serious injury. It is typically practiced on large natural boulders or artificial boulders in gyms and outdoor urban areas. Bouldering is a style of climbing emphasizing power, strength, and dynamics. Its focus is on individual moves or short sequences of moves, unlike traditional climbing or sport climbing, which generally demand more endurance over longer stretches of rock where the difficulty of individual moves is not as great. Boulder routes are commonly referred to as problems (a British appellation) because the nature of the climb is often short, curious, and much like problem solving.}

I am constantly reminded of why I love climbing so much and why I devoted a few years of my life exclusively to it. What a fun and challenging way to defeat gravity. I'm absolutely in love with climbing and super stoked to go a ton this season!

I have been taking a photography class this summer and it has been a complete blast! We have done a ton of assignments and here are some of mine....

This assignment was an unedited portrait of yourself. It was challenging because you had set your focus, and distance from the camera without being behind the camera, self timer here we go!

Landscape

Panorama. This is my favorite place in the world {well one of them}

This was a scanner assignment where we were learning how to adjust the settings on the scanner to work with color balance, pixels, etc. It's pretty amazing that a scanner can make jewelry look so professionally captured.

Textures assignment. This was to help us not only get familiar with filters in Photoshop, but to also learn how to copy, paste, collage, etc.

Curves assignment. The left side is after using curves and the right side is before. Love the curves settings in photoshop {love everything i'm learning to do on photoshop} The curves window in photoshop can help you with contrast, color balance, exposure, and more... its amazing!

Depth of Field. This assignment was to teach us how to get the same exposure with a smaller {left} and bigger {right} depth of field. Gotta keep track of your stops.

Vegas Weekend

The Girls {plus lincoln and holden} went to vegas this weekend to 1. get away from the cold 2. celebrate my grandma's birthday 3. have a bridal shower for Mara. It's was so hot and so much fun to get away from the cold rainy weather and get in the sun! We are total pool babies and did this all weekend!

Scott and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary a few weeks ago with, of course, going out to sushi {and watching modern family after that, it was the best night ever}. We made it a point not to get gifts at all because Hawaii was our gift and we were out of anniversary money. Scott and I are trying to accept that we are now home from our second trip to Hawaii {Kauai} where we spent a little over a week with our best friends {Devin&Lauren and Chad&Hiedi}.

We left on a snowy morning in Utah and headed to the warmth of the Kauai sand. We did not miss a second of the day going from one thing to another and exploring our temporary island home. We were sure to get lots of sun and lots of snow cones. We took a million pics and I know, I know.... I overdid it with this post. But I didn't want to skip anything {although a lot of pics were left out}. We were all celebrating something {us} 2 years marriage {D & L} GRADUATION {C & H} 9 months of marriage. April and I have been best friends since high school where we were completely inseparable, and we were good friends even before that. I feel so very blessed to have such a wonderful friend that I know will always be there and will always have a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on. We play out the expression "two peas in a pod". Last weekend Bekah came into town to stay with Jessica and we jumped on the opportunity to do a girls night! We went out to dinner at the Thai Place in American fork (amazing food, good prices! I highly recommend it) and then we went to none other than the CHOCOLATE! We got the famous and delicious cazzokie. It is so fun when we get together, it's like we are never apart! I always feel like i've worked out my stomach muscles due to the outrageous amount of laughter that we share when we get together! We had some good conversation and I wish we could get together every weekend! I love you girls!

Scott and I went on the beautiful Utah Lake trail in provo last saturday and it was so good to get out with our adorable little puppy (well not so little anymore!). We went on a cold rainy saturday and it was great because no one was around and we were able to keep Kita off the leash, which is much easier for us and her. It was so refreshing to be able to go out with just a jacket and it gets me excited for spring and even more excited for summer! This winter has been so long, SUMMER HURRY!!

You will all have to humor me for a minute while I act as if my dog is my child.....

We go to "the field" with some friends in our ward and their two dogs a few times a week and Kita loves it! We might love it even more because she is such a better dog when she gets some good exercise. We have so much fun watching Bubba (below) and Kita play because they are only a month apart and still have the puppy in them! It's so nice to have an excuse to drop everything and go outside ever day! Even though Kita is so much work we are still crazy about her (when she is good...)!

The Hungarian or Magyar Vizsla are sporting dogs and loyal companions, in addition to being the smallest of the all-round pointer-retriever breeds. The Vizsla's medium size is one of the breed's most appealing characteristics as a hunter of fowl and upland game, and through the centuries the Vizsla has held a unique position for a sporting dog – that of household companion and family dog.

The Vizsla is a natural hunter endowed with an excellent nose and an outstanding trainability. Although they are lively, gentle mannered, demonstrably affectionate and sensitive, they are also fearless and possessed of a well-developed protective instinct.

Scott and I both grew up with dogs and have wanted one for a long time! We did a ton of research and found what we feel is the perfect dog for us. Her name is Kita and I put some info up about the breed since no one knows anything about them. They are very rare and we are excited to call her ours. The reason we were so interested in the breed was because we wanted a big dog because they are so loyal and trainable but I did not want to deal with dog hair all over my house. We were so thrilled to find that Vizslas only shed a very mild amount because they have only one coat of fur (unlike labs or golden retrievers who have 2 layers of long hair that is constantly shedding). Kita has a great pedigree with no health problems and both her parents are competing hunting dogs, which is funny because anyone who knows me, knows that I will never hunt. Another reason we wanted a Vizsla is because they are very athletic and can keep up with our outdoorsy lifestyle. We look forward to many many hikes, swims, camping trips, and bike rides with her! She will need about an hour of exercise everyday to let our her energy and we are excited to have anexcuse to get out ever day! We already have trips to Moab and Escalante planned with her, we can't wait! She has been more work than I could have ever imagined, we have been getting up in the middle of the night, cleaning up pee and poo, and saying "NO!" about every five seconds. She is getting better everyday at what we are teaching her. She is great in her crate and is completely potty trained (except for a few accidents here and there). We are proud to report that she has been accident free for 2 days now! She is so smart and we are really learning patience. We love her so much already, she really fits in with us!

Scott and I took a random camping trip in our new 4-Runner this last weekend. We got sushi to go (because after all we are sushi is a camping food) and headed up American Fork Canyon. We slept in the back of the 4-Runner and hiked to silver lake saturday morning. It was a beautiful 5 mile hike, and a much needed trip to the mountains!

The Beach is the best week of the year! Better then my birthday, better then spring break, better then Christmas. It is a week full of sun, fun, and family (doesn't get much better than that). This boat above provides limitless entertainment throughout the week. We try to catch waves on it, and for the first time this year, we actually did it! It was amazing! Also, for those of you who don't know, Scott and I are pretty much busy all the time, so to have a week together in the sun is more than we could ever want!

Tropical storm Agatha in Chimaltenango

Flooding and landslides from the season's first tropical storm have killed at least 145 people and made thousands homeless in Central America. In the department of Chimaltenango( my home for 5 months) — a province west of Guatemala City — landslides buried dozens of rural Indian communities and killed at least 60 people

The more I read about this story my heart just breaks because this was my home for many months and in that time I completely fell in love with Chimaltenango and all the people who live there. My prayers go out to all that are suffering, and I hope more than anything that my kids were not harmed. Below will be a few of my pictures of the city and kids, and then a few of the city with the flood.

Kauai

Scott and I spent 10 blissful days in Kauai for our one year anniversary. We have about a million pictures and even more wonderful memories but I will give a quick overview of the trip.

We camped the 1st night, then stayed in a condo for 7 days, and then ended with two more nights camping. Everyday was packed full of activities, most of which were involved a fair amount of hiking, needless to say we were exhausted by the end of everyday. Our favorite activities were Kipu falls (jumping off waterfalls, and rope swings), the Kalalua trail (8 mile round trip hike to a beautiful waterfall),kayaking the wailua river to secret falls, and the Na Pali coast tour (seeing 600 dolphins and swimming with sea turtles). We ate at so many yummy restaurants and had snow cones everyday! It was the most beautiful, exciting, fun, romantic place I'd ever been and It could not have been more perfect of a place to celebrate one year of wonderful, happy marriage!

We ate snow cones everyday, they have ice cream at the bottom. The ultimate Hawaii treat!

For our anniversary we Scott took me to a really nice restaurant with the most breathtaking view. He has made marriage such a dream come true, and I can't ever stop saying how lucky I am. Scott, I love you. You are the man of my dreams! The moral of our story is: go to Kauai if you want a good adventure. We had way to much fun, and it was truly the trip of a lifetime. Aloha!

Laurice Graduated with her bachelors from UVU! Congrats Lu Lu for all your hard work and sacrifices to get an education! I will also note that Laurice had a 4.0 most of her semesters, worked full time all through school, and went through her whole last semester pregnant (she took her last final the day before she delivered Caleb, nice timing right!). MEXICO CRUISE #2

The best part of January was our (second) cruise to Mexico. Scott's work took us, and we could not have been more grateful to have another free trip! We had a blast skipping out on the snow and playing in the sun! Thanks Pinnacle!

I have been a major blogger slacker, I know. I want to make a goal to blog more
often, not only for the few (and I mean few) people who actually see my
blog, but also for me. I need a way to keep track of what I'm doing, that is where
blogging comes in. For those of you who do not know how CRAZY and BUSY our
lives are here at the Gardner home, here is what we are up to...

Marissa: 16 credits (Math, English, Phych, and Biology), working Monday (8-4), Wed. (8 am-
9 pm) and Friday (8 am- 4 pm). I somehow find time in the mists of it all to study,
love my honey, and sleep (usually eating is found somewhere in the cracks).

Scott: Works Monday-Friday 7 am- 4 pm, and going to school 9 credit hours.

Needless to say, we never see each other, but it just makes it all the more sweeter when we do.

We are planning our one year anniversary trip!!! Can't believe we have been married
almost a year, and so excited to spend our anniversary out of the country (hopefully :).

I was able to stay at Laurice's house (it also helps that i live upstairs)
all night to help with the baby. It was so fun to hold him,
